SeaScape's Sailing Adventures DownUnder!
The Whitsundays are a group of 74 tropical islands, located off the
north-eastern corner of Australia, inside the world-famous Great
Barrier Reef. All but a handful of the islands are uninhabited, being
National Parks surrounded by protected Marine Parks. Most of the islands
are dense tropical vegetation, with long, expansive beaches...the sort of castor-sugar-like
sand which squeaks between your toes! The water is a striking turquoise hue, teaming with
multi-coloured coral and fish life- the most amazing snorkelling!
Sailing in the Whitsundays is a contrast between these stunningly beautiful, tropical
islands; swimming in the warm, clear ocean, keeping company with the local marine life! -
strolling along deserted beach and taking in the most amazing sunsets.... and then at the
opposite end of the scale - the occasional visits to the resort islands, chance to sip at
cocktails-by-the-pool, etc, and be thoroughly decadent, before taking off on our own yacht
and sailing into the sunset again... !
Aurora, our boat (appropriately named after the Greek Goddess of the Dawn)
is a 38 foot French designed and built catamaran, specifically imported into
Australia for its suitability to sailing these waters in luxury and style.
It has a cockpit large enough to "swing several cats "!! - and heaps of deckspace, perfect
for the tropical conditions in the Whitsundays.
