Our catamaran is based at the marina on Hamilton Island - the only island
in the region that is "developed". It has regular daily
connections with Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns, and the marina is less than
5mins drive from the airport.
Strict itineraries are never part of our SeaScape sailing philosophy! - we go with the flow
of group consensus and whatever the wind gods dictate at the time! However, there's
several "must-see" spots - for example,
the ancient aboriginal rock
paintings in Nara Inlet... snorkelling the magnificent "Woodpile" on Hook Island...
dinghying among the mangroves in the upper reaches of Gulnara Inlet.
Then one can't miss a stroll along the fantastic
wilderness of Whitehaven Beach (one of the most superb beaches on this planet!),
swimming with the green turtles off Chalkies Beach,
beach coaming the sand spit at Langford Reef, watching the flying
Manta Rays off Luncheon Bay, hand feeding the Wrasse at Border Island...and finally,
gazing at the red disk of the setting sun as it slowly sinks beyond the
distant Conway Ranges from lying at anchor in Cid Harbour!
Enough excitment for one week ?? :)
You even get to sail with a native! - Robert, our
aussie Accountant Afloat/Skipper/how-to-say 'G'Day Mate' instructor....
