So how do we get there?
Whilst we can give you heaps of advice and suggestions on how best to get to us, we at SeaScape
don't book airfares directly. Airline ticketing is a very specialised business, and best
left to those agencies who devote their fulltime attention to it. We do have a great travel
agent we can recommend in the States, who can help with airfares, land accommodation, etc
- email us for contact details.
In the meantime, here are the basics of how to get to us:
Greece:
First of all, of course, you need to get to Athens!
From Athens, there are several options:
- domestic connection Athens-Leros/Kos/Samos (Olympic Airlines, Aegean Airways). Flights
are about 50mins. We have detailed notes we
can email to you.
- Overnight ferry. There is at least one ferry per day travelling from Pireus (Athens) to
Leros and the other islands. For our home island of Leros - there is a Blue Star
ferry which matches our rendezvous time perfectly - dep Athens 11.30pm Sat, arr Leros 8.30am Sun.
Turkey:
The international airport
here is Istanbul. You'll then need a domestic connection to either Dalaman or Bodrum on
the south coast. Takes about 90mins. Again,
we send out detailed notes as needed.
Ground transport in Turkey is excellent;
there are air-conditioned buses that run regularly between all the major towns, at crazily
cheap prices.
Our "combo" trips
If you book early, it's possible to fly into Athens and out of Istanbul at a reasonable cost.
However, the best fares often mean a RT flight to just one city; Athens is usually the easiest.
Fortunately, it's very easy to get from Athens to our rendezvous points in Turkey;
a domestic flight/ferry to either Kos, Samos or Rhodes, then a ferry from these islands to Turkey.
Likewise, at the end of a trip, you can ferry from Turkey back to the islands easily.
Here are the routes for this area:
- Samos—Kusadasi (approx 90mins)
- Kos—Bodrum (approx 45 mins)
- Rhodes—Marmaris (1hr-90mins, depending if it is a hydrofoil or ferry)
NOTE: If you have frequent flyer miles you're thinking of using - book them early! This is
a very popular route, and "miles" seats go fast.
